Donna's Healthy Living Tips

Natural Treatment of Headaches and Migraines

Filed under: prevention, supplements | Tags: ,

One of the most common health concerns that I hear is that someone has a headache.  And not just a once-in-a-while headache, but often, these folks have headaches very regularly and they end up doing one of three things: 1) Live with the pain and go about their business as best they can. 2) Medicate themselves to deal with the pain. 3) Become incapacitated by the pain and remove themselves from daily life while the pain subsides.

That is no way to live.  If you are ready for another option…read on…

Please remember that I am not a health professional, I am merely sharing what has helped other people and made a huge difference in their lives.  I have not personally suffered from migraines or headaches so I cannot speak to the effectiveness of this program.  I can tell you that there is a money-back guarantee, so what have you got to lose?

In the interest of full disclosure I am an Independent Shaklee Distributor and if you choose to order products through me or my website I will receive a commission.  There is a reason I chose to distribute Shaklee products and that is because of their extreme attention to quality, third party testing, and consistent results.

STEP ONE:

To start with, headaches are often tied to a body that is overrun with toxins.  The first step is to detoxify the body by doing the following:

  • Consume purified water
  • Take DTX to detoxify the liver
  • Take Alfalfa to purify the blood
  • Take HerbLax to cleanse the colon and bladder
  • Take Optiflora to support the digestive tract and to provide good bacteria to support the detox
  • Increase fiber consumption (may be able to decrease Herb Lax).

Continue the above program until the body is having two bowel movements per day (no constipation, no diarrhea) and urinating several times per day.

STEP TWO:

The second step is to create a consistent regimen of giving your body what it needs to be strong and healthy.  Don’t be surprised if in addition to decreased headaches you also have more energy and other health complaints may decrease as well.  Make sure you are eating a healthy diet and continuing with purified water.  Take the following:

  • VitaLea 3x/day
  • B-Complex 6/day
  • Herb Lax 2-4/day
  • Energizing Soy Protein 3 tablespoons daily
  • Vitamin C (sustained release) 6/day
  • Calcium/Magnesium 6/day
  • Alfalfa 12-15/day
  • OmegaGuard 6/day
  • GLA (gamma linolenic acid) 6/day
  • Optiflora 1 each/day

Investigate if there may be a food you are consuming that is causing the headaches including:

  • Chocolate
  • Monosodium glutamate (MSG)
  • Food colorings
  • Fruits such as bananas, plums, or pineapple
  • Wheat
  • Dairy
  • Alcohol (especially red wine)
  • Pickled herrings

EMERGENCY RELIEF:

For a migraine that is coming on, have these packets ready to go to take to head it off (take one packet per hour until you experience relief):

  • 2 B-Complex
  • 2 Cal/Mag
  • 2 GLA
  • 4-5 Alfalfa
  • 2 OmegaGuard
  • Drink 1-8 oz. glass of Performance (Shaklee’s sports nutrition rehydration beverage)

If you are a regular reader then you know that I do not usually push Shaklee products on you.  In this case, I need to tell you that if you choose to use other company’s products you will likely not experience the same results.  Shaklee products are consistent quality and tested to make sure they actually get absorbed into your bloodstream.  Take a chance and give it a try.  As I mentioned before there is a money-back guarantee.  Wouldn’t it be great to have had your last headache or migraine?  Please feel free to contact me at: keithdonnacopeland@sbcglobal.net to get more support.  You can place orders at: www.DonnaCopeland.MyShaklee.com Good luck!

Natural Flu Prevention (swine or otherwise)
October 2, 2009, 1:21 pm
Filed under: Healthy Nutrition, Natural Kids, supplements

Flu season has started with a bang and it sounds like the southern states are being hit pretty hard.  I heard of one school district that closed for a few days because there are so many absences.  I hope everyone is on the mend soon.  The best thing we can do to prevent the flu is to make sure our bodies are strong enough to not allow the bad guys to take hold and make us sick.

Before I go into my tips on flu prevention, I want you to know that I practice these tips year-round.  Viruses, germs, bacteria are all out there year-round so it makes sense to me to look out for my health 365 days a year.

Donna’s year round natural flu (and other illness) prevention:

  • Get eight to nine hours of sleep per night.  For children it is significantly higher, up to 13 + hours for the youngest (and maybe more with naps).  In my opinion, this is the number one thing you can do to prevent illness.
  • Drink lots of pure water (get a filter for your tap water, please avoid bottled water for all the environmental considerations).  You should be drinking about 60 oz of water each day (don’t count anything with caffeine or sugar or artificial sweeteners or alcohol).  Add slices of citrus fruits or fresh herbs to soak in the water and add flavor if you don’t care for plain water.  I also would not count carbonated water.
  • Take an excellent multi-vitamin made out of food, not synthetics.
  • Get plenty of fiber in your diet (25+ grams for woman 30+ grams for men) and be sure to balance that with the water.
  • Eat regular and balanced meals out of food that a farmer would recognize.
  • Take a coated probiotic that GUARANTEES the delivery of the ”good guys” into your digestive system.
  • Take sustained release B-Complex and Vitamin C as these both boost our immune systems.
  • Wash your hands well with REGULAR soap (avoid anti-bacterials – they are terrible for the environment and they are contributing to “super bugs” being created).
  • Take pure alfalfa to cleanse the body of toxins, help the kidneys work better, and a whole host of other wonderful things.
  • Take garlic complex as a natural anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and overall health-supporting nutrient.  The odor-less garlic has NOT been proven to have the same effectiveness as the garlic that still has it’s scent.  Eat it at the beginning of a meal and pile the food on top of it so your friends and family are less likely to notice.
  • Get plenty of Vitamin D, I would say at least 1,000 IUs as this provides all sorts of protection in our bodies for health and wellness.
  • Boost your body’s interferon naturally.  Interferon occurs naturally in our bodies to fight for our health.  You may recognize the word “interferon” because a synthetic version is often given to certain cancer patients and patients with HIV.  This synthetic version has lots of side effects, similar to chemotherapy.  Certain herbs have been shown in combination to naturally boost our bodies ability to produce interferon – with NO side effects.  The only clinically proven supplement I know of that does this is Shaklee’s Nutriferon.   I take it every day.

If you feel an illness coming on, you have been under stress, or you know you have been exposed to someone who was ill, do the following:

  • Make sure you are doing all of the above (and I usually increase my garlic and Nutriferon).
  • If you have been exposed to someone who was ill, use Basic G to wipe down surfaces that have been touched by the sick person.  Basic G has been proven as effective as the other heavy-hitter germicides and it isn’t as hard on the environment or you.  Still use caution and follow directions.
  • Add Echinacea and Zinc until you feel like the danger has passed.
  • Boost your immunity with extra B’s, C, E, A, Copper, and Selenium.
  • Overall, make sure any supplements you purchase are from a company that proves that the nutrients actually get into your blood stream.  Otherwise, what is the sense of taking them if you don’t know that they are doing their job?

I know it takes some effort to take care of ourselves and be consistent on our nutrition, sleep, and stress.  Remember that you are worth it and there is nothing more valuable than your health.

    Fall Allergies
    September 25, 2009, 11:31 am
Filed under: Natural Kids, supplements | Tags: ,

‘Tis the season for people to be sniffling and to be unsure if they are having the start of a cold or allergies.  One way that I was told you can tell is if you nose is itchy…If it is – allergies; if it isn’t – a cold.  Either way, it can be miserable to be sneezing and blowing your nose all the time so let’s look at ways we can decrease our allergy symptoms naturally and maybe even eliminate them.

I used to have moderate seasonal allergies and my husband, Keith, used to have severe seasonal allergies.  While he was still working in a factory a friend of his suggested two things: 1) a good multi-vitamin and 2) chiropractic care.  Keith did those two and experienced a significant decrease in his symptoms.

Let me back up for a minute and talk about how much information people need before they move into action.  Some people need to know how and why everything works before they will try something new.  Other people are more content to make sure that whatever they are doing is safe and then they will give it a try (they don’t need to know all the inner-workings).  I am more in the second camp.  I don’t need to know how electricity works to flip a lightswitch or the one that really boggles my mind is the telephone (and TV too).

So, if you want all the science, the whys and hows, contact me and I can give you some places to look.  If you are content to know that what I am suggesting won’t hurt you so give it a try…then carry on…

In addition to a good multi-vitamin and looking into chiropractic care, the most important thing we can do for seasonal allergies is to increase our immunity.  A strong and healthy body is better able to battle molds and pollens that are in our environment.  Try the following:

    • get plenty of sleep (8-9 hours/night)
    • drink lots of purified water (please don’t buy bottled…get a purifier for your home tap water)
    • eat a balanced diet with fresh veggies, fruits, fiber, and protein
    • try a “Neti Pot” to flush pollen and other contaminants out of your nasal passages

My top Shaklee supplement picks for avoiding allergies:

    • Vitalizer (multi-vitamin + + +)
    • Nutriferon
    • Alfalfa

If I start to feel a bit run down or that I might be coming down with something I give myself a big boost by adding:

    • Defend and Resist (Echinacea and zinc + more)
    • Vitamin C (sustained release) – extra
    • Vitamin B complex – extra
    • Garlic complex – extra

There are many things in our control to support our own health and wellness.  They do require choices each day and a commitment to do what is right instead of what is easy (and this is especially important for our children).

If you are interested in looking into chiropractic care, check out www.newerasaline.com (they have a variety of methods to choose from).  Whatever you choose, make sure you know you are making a choice.  Happy choosing!

    Getting Enough Sleep
    September 14, 2009, 12:44 pm
Filed under: mental health, supplements | Tags: ,

You have probably heard it said that we should be getting eight or nine hours of sleep per night for optimum health.  I know many people consider themselves to be doing good if they get six uninterrupted hours per night.  What we may not realize is the danger we are putting ourselves in when we consistently cut ourselves short on sleep.

Our bodies need sleep to rejuvenate, heal, detox, and grow.  I know there are some people who seem to operate just fine on four, five, or six hours of sleep per day.  That may be true.  However, before you lump yourself into that category…consider the following:

There have been several sleep deprivation studies that have clearly shown that people who are sleepy behind the wheel drive as poorly as people who have had alcohol.

People who don’t get enough sleep are more likely to have heart attacks.

People who don’t get enough sleep are more likely to get sick.

People who don’t get enough sleep are more likely to get headaches.

People who don’t get enough sleep tend to have more mood swings.

So how can you get enough sleep?

It is my opinion that there are two keys to getting enough sleep:

    1. Plan to get enough sleep.  Arrange your schedule and your activities so you can get to bed and sleep for a full eight to nine hours.  This means better use of your waking hours so you aren’t up at midnight working on that special project for school or finishing the laundry.
    2. Use self-discipline to go to bed.  When we were little our parents (most of our parents) made sure we were in bed by a certain time in order to get enough rest (and give themselves a break).  Now WE need to each take responsibility for ourselves and demonstrate the same self-discipline we use to get to work on time or make sure our bills are paid to get ourselves in bed at a decent hour.

Additional tips for getting enough sleep are:

    • If you nap during the day, keep it brief (30 minutes or less)…set an alarm!  Too much sleep during the day will throw off your nightly routine and could set you up for a bad sleep pattern.
    • Keep your bedroom dark.  Our brain patterns for sleep work better in the dark.  Plus I read of one study where people who slept in rooms that were not dark were more likely to develop cancer.
    • Turn down the lights as you get closer to bedtime.  This helps our bodies natural rhythms to recognize that sleep is coming, sort of like the sun setting.
    • Watch how much you eat and drink before going to bed…especially caffiene and alcohol.  Alcohol may make you sleepy initially but the effects can wear off after a couple hours.  If you find yourself awake in the middle of the night and have a hard time going back to sleep, cut out the alcohol or consume it with dinner and not before bed.
    • Turn off your brain.  I regularly will read a chapter of a light reading novel before going to sleep.  It helps me put good thoughts in my brain and decrease thoughts about “what I need to do tomorrow” or “what happened today” that may keep me awake and pondering.
    • Take “Gentle Sleep Complex” 20-30 minutes before you go to bed.  It has Chamomile and Valerian Root plus a few other herbs, is non-addicting, and doesn’t make you dopey.  I use it on nights that I know I will have a harder time turning my brain off and settling down to sleep.

Consider committing to yourself to set up a good sleep habit for the next month and stick to it.  See how your body feels if you are consistently getting eight hours of sleep per night.

    Ease Menstrual Pains
    September 11, 2009, 2:50 pm
Filed under: mental health, supplements | Tags: , , ,

If you are reading this I am sure you have had your own experiences with menstrual pains (either from yourself, a friend, or spouse).  I know people who have such tremendous pain with their menstrual cycles they have difficulty holding down a job.  As always, I thought I would share my personal experience and what I have found to be the most helpful in naturally alleviating both physical and emotional pain that can be associated with my cycle.

I would describe my “normal” menstrual symptoms as moderate.  Prior to doing the tips that I list below I would have cramping that caused me to double over in pain but I was still able to function and work.  I could be quite unreasonably emotional and hard to get along with (so much so that if I could have gotten away from myself, I would have).

The number one thing that has helped my cycle is increasing water consumption.  This month, especially for the last week, I did less well on water intake and I could tell in my feelings of moodiness.

Number two for helping my cycle is listening to my body and making sure that I am paying attention to the signals it gives me (throughout the month).  Instead of blindly popping a pain reliever if I have a headache, I will work backward and do an inventory of my body to identify where the headache might have come from.  If I realize I have been hunched over the computer I will do some stretching and ask my hubby for a back rub or if my water intake has been low I will drink 10 oz of water right away and then make a conscious effort to get another 20 oz into my body in the next hour.

One big piece of this is resolving differences in relationships and not letting bad feelings fester and grow.  For me, it is taking time to grieve losses I have had or they really show up during PMS time.  I also strive to get eight to nine hours of sleep per night because that really makes a difference for me.

To help with my cycle overall, and especially for the emotional side of things, I have added GLA (gamma linolenic acid) which is an omega-6 fatty acid that our bodies use to form prostaglandins (hormone-like substances that our bodies use to regulate processes).  I take two a day and the week to ten days before my period starts I bump it up to three per day.

The first month I added GLA to my daily routine my period started around my normal timing and I mentioned it casually to my husband that my period had begun.  He looked over at me surprised and said, “I didn’t think it was coming up so quick.”  To which I replied, “I don’t know why you would be surprised, it falls around the same time every month.”  He said, “Don’t take this the wrong way, but I didn’t have any warning this month that it was starting.”  (He meant crankiness and then he asked if he could buy stock in GLA.)

I almost always have a backache the first 24-36 hours of my period.  I have found that Shaklee’s Joint and Muscle Cream really eases my back pain.  If the cat gives me a snuggle too, it is even more effective.

I also take chewable Calcium and Magnesium supplements the first couple days of my period to help relax my muscles.

I am a big fan of using glad rags or another reusable product for menstrual flow.  You can go to www.gladrags.com and check out what they have for both external and internal use.  The organic cotton is really wonderful feeling and so much better for our bodies than all the synthetics and chemicals in disposables.  Plus, I haven’t had to purchase any supplies in years!  It is an investment initially but then you more than make your money back.

Take care of yourself and honor all parts of you.  Try not to get so caught up in day-to-day tasks that you don’t listen to the messages your body is sending.  We women sometimes get busy and put others ahead of our own needs.  Remember if you aren’t good to yourself, you won’t be able to be good for others.  Take time to nurture YOU.

    Supplements to Support Stress Relief
    August 21, 2009, 2:03 pm
Filed under: mental health, supplements | Tags:

During a particularly stressful time in the first couple years of opening our martial arts school, Keith’s hair turned grey in a matter of months.  I always used to get sick while home on “post finals break” during college.  Many people find themselves ill when grieving (whether loss of a person, a job, a marriage, etc.).  Stress is hard on our bodies and there are simply times that no matter how well we manage our lives, we are still going to be under stress.

So when all else fails and you are under stress, what can you do to pump up your body’s defenses so you can stay healthy and productive while continuing to take care of those you love, especially yourself?

To have stress relief but feel alert:

    • Stress Relief Complex: Reduce your body’s production of cortisol (which has been shown to be harmful to our bodies) with a unique blend of L-Theanine, Aswagandha, Beta sitosterol, and L-Tyrosine.  This has been shown to work in as quickly as 30 minutes.

    To sleep well:

    • Gentle Sleep Complex provides you with Valerian, Chamomile, and Passion Flower to help you stay calm and sleep well.
    • Calcium (especially chewable Calcium/Magnesium) just before bed serves as a natural relaxer.  NOTE: You can also try the chewable calcium instead of antacids.

For General Health and Vitality (also see posts on immunity):

    • B-Complex: Our bodies chew through B Vitamins when we are under stress like they are going out of style.  Get lots of extra B’s.
    • Vitamin C: Essential to keeping our cells happy and healthy, get extra Vitamin C and since it doesn’t stick around for long, take it multiple times during the day (you can get a sustained release that is good for five hours…see the website below).
    • An excellent multi-vitamin: This isn’t the time to choose the cheapest vitamin on the shelf; you want a comprehensive supplement that will provide your body with added support, antioxidants, and natural anti-inflammatory protection on a daily basis.
    • Soy Protein Shakes: The last thing you need under stress is to start having your blood sugar take dips and peaks.  Being under stress is an easy time to eat wrong.  Keep some convenience foods on hand (like shakes) and eat right.

Stress is part of life but there are many things we can do to reduce our stress.  Start with your calendar and what you can control and make sure you have good supplements on hand to help you stay healthy and productive when short term stress is unavoidable.  Take time for R & R (rest and relaxation) too!

Donna Copeland is an Independent Shaklee Distributor who has had her own experiences with stress that have sometimes ended badly and with ill health.  Learning from those experiences and making improvements in her own life, Donna is happy to share her lessons with you in the hope that you can live a longer, healthier, and more enjoyable life.  You can find the products mentioned in this blog at: www.Shaklee.net/DonnaCopeland

BREAKING RESEARCH SHOWS VITAMIN D LINKED TO HDL CHOLESTEROL

News you can use…(passing this along)

BREAKING RESEARCH SHOWS VITAMIN D LINKED TO HDL CHOLESTEROL Shaklee Corporation Research Suggests an Important Role of Vitamin D for Supporting Cardiovascular Health

PLEASANTON, Calif. – May 19, 2009 – Research supported by Shaklee Corporation, the number one natural nutrition company in the U.S., shows that a lower blood vitamin D level is associated with metabolic syndrome and other risk factors for cardiovascular disease. The study results were presented at the National Lipid Association Annual Scientific Sessions in Miami, Florida and suggest an important role of vitamin D nutrition for maintaining cardiovascular health.

“I am so proud to be associated with a company whose heritage has always been about improving people’s health and well-being. It’s very exciting that Shaklee has helped to bring this important research to the world,” says Independent Shaklee Distributor, Donna Copeland. “The findings may have significant public health implications related to new understanding about benefits related to vitamin D supplementation,” adds Copeland.

In this study, intake of vitamin D from dietary supplements was strongly linked with vitamin D levels in the blood. The greater the intake of vitamin D from dietary supplements, the higher the amount of vitamin D found in the blood. More importantly, as vitamin D intakes increased, HDL cholesterol (or “good cholesterol”) levels increased as well. Future research is needed to determine if vitamin D from dietary supplements can lower risk levels for metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease.

“Our next study, which is already underway, is intended to confirm causality by showing that vitamin D supplementation improves cardiovascular risk factors,” says Dr. Jamie McManus M.D., Chairman of Medical Affairs, Health Sciences and Education, Shaklee Corporation. Kevin C. Maki, PhD, the study’s Principal Investigator and the Chief Science Officer of Provident Clinical Research, Glen Ellyn, IL, says, “Results from population studies suggest that a low serum vitamin D concentration is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular mortality, but this is the first study to evaluate the relationship between vitamin D status and cardiovascular risk factors in a group that includes a large number of vitamin D supplement users.” He continues, “Additional research is warranted to assess whether increasing vitamin D intake will improve the metabolic cardiovascular risk factor profile.”

    Rickets is on the Rise
    August 10, 2009, 1:13 pm
Filed under: Healthy Nutrition, supplements | Tags: , ,

I didn’t know what rickets was until I googled it.  That is because it was believed to be pretty much eradicated for at least the past fifty years or so in “developed” countries.  It was at some of its highest levels during the depression of the 1930’s when many children were malnourished in the United States.  In case you don’t know either, I will share with you that rickets is a softening and weakening of the bones which causes pain, dental problems, stunted growth and other structural deformities.

Rickets is caused by not getting enough Vitamin D and/or calcium by diet or sunlight exposure.  If you live north of Atlanta or LA you have several months per year you CAN’T get enough Vitamin D by sunlight exposure because of the angle of the sun.  There are also concerns that air pollution could have an influence on the Vitamin D getting to us by sun.

I was especially surprised to learn that children who are breastfed exclusively for a long period of time actually have a HIGHER possibility of developing rickets because mother’s milk doesn’t naturally contain a lot of Vitamin D (although it is extremely rich in many other necessary nutrients and I strongly support women breastfeeding for as long as they are able).  The main message there is for the woman to make sure she is having her own levels of Vitamin D monitored and, very likely, supplementing so there is plenty getting through to the baby.

So, how much should you get?

    • Infants should be getting at least 400 IUs (international units) per day
    • Children should be getting at least 600 IUs per day
    • Adults should be getting at least 800 (and will probably be healthier if they get at least 1,000) IUs per day

There has also been some very exciting research done regarding heart disease and protection from Vitamin D which I will share in a future blog.  In the meantime, know that you should look for Vitamin D3 (this is the most absorb-able type) and try to get it in a multi-vitamin supplement because as it was mentioned, you also need adequate levels of calcium and in general it is an excellent idea to take a good-quality multi-vitamin to provide good nutrition to our bodies.

Between my Vitalizer multi-vitamin supplement and my Osteomatrix bone health supplement, I get at least 1,400 IUs of Vitamin D3 per day.  When I was diagnosed as being Vitamin D deficient a couple years ago my doctor told me I could safely take 3,000 IUs per day to get my levels back up.  This doesn’t include any Vitamin D3 I get from my diet or sunlight…I just consider that a bonus.

How much Vitamin D do you take in each day?  How about your child?

Omega 3s are Good For You
    July 1, 2009, 12:23 pm

By now you have probably heard that the oil in fish, especially deep water fish, like Salmon, is very good for you.  There is, however, a very unhealthy side to fish consumption which is the contamination levels of heavy metals and other toxins that are in the fish.  We humans have only ourselves to blame as all the other creatures of the world are innocent in the heavy-duty pollution that has taken place in the last couple centuries.

Back to Omega 3’s…it seems a little counter-intuitive that oils are actually good for so many parts of our bodies.  Here are a few:

    • Joints-Omega 3’s have an anti-inflammatory effect which makes them a wonderful and healthy addition for anyone dealing with arthritis or other joint issues.  I give them to my dog and cat every day to help them stay healthy and moving well.
    • Heart/Cardiovascular-including but not limited to: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, irregular heart beat, blood clots, atherosclerosis, etc.  Omega 3’s have been clinically-proven to reduce the occurrence of coronary heart disease and atherosclerosis, lower blood pressure and cholesterol, and more.
    • Brain/Mental Health-including but not limited to: dementia, anxiety and depression, mood swings, learning and behavioral disorders, etc.  DHA, one of the elements of OmegaGuard is essential to brain health.
    • Diabetes
    • Digestive-i.e. IBS, Crohns, Colitis, etc.  The anti-inflammatory effect is likely what is so helpful here with these conditions.
    • Skin/Hair-A friend of mine has found that increasing the Omega 3’s in her diet helps her complexion to stay more clear.  Our cat and dog have healthier skin and fur when they are consistently taking their Omega 3’s (the dog gets the capsule just dropped in her food, the cat’s capsule gets opened up and dribbled over his food which he adores licking up).
    • Pre-natal-Studies have shown that woman who supplement with DHA (one of the Omega 3’s) have smarter babies with better brain development.  Wow!

So now that we have established why Omega 3’s are so good for us, let’s look at considerations in how to get Omega 3’s into our diet.  The single biggest consideration is what I mentioned at the beginning, contamination of the best sources of Omega 3’s: fish.

Shaklee Corporation has been manufacturing their Omega-3 Complex for decades, long before the media recognized the benefits of Omega 3’s.  The fish oil is distilled THREE TIMES and then tested for heavy metals and other contamination.  If any trace contamination is found that batch is not used.  The standard is incredibly strict and is equated to looking for a grain of sand in an Olympic-size swimming pool.

I, for one, don’t much care for the flavor of fish.  As a vegetarian it was simple for me to also toss fish out with the rest of the meat because I don’t like it.  After reading up on all the good things that Omega 3’s do for me I decided to take the Omega 3 supplement because I feel the HUGE benefits outweigh my vegetarian considerations.  Plus, I don’t have to taste the fish!

One little tip, I take the Omega 3’s (the red capsules in Vitalizer) just before bed because sometimes during the day there can be a little burping of fish flavor and I never notice it when I take them at bedtime.  I think I am probably losing a little absorption because they aren’t being taken with a meal, but I am willing to do that because I don’t want to chance tasting fish.

Know that not all companies (I would hazard to say very few) take such pains to make sure their Omega 3 supplements are that pure.  So think twice before you grab the cheapest Omega 3 supplement on the drugstore shelf.  You can do a lot of damage to your body with those heavy metals and other toxins.  Plus, once we ingest heavy metals, they don’t leave our bodies naturally.

Resveratrol Anti Aging Supplement and 60 Minutes

Did anyone else see 60 Minutes last night?  I caught the tail-end as Keith and I were working in the garden.  For those of us in the north, what a glorious day to work outside!  Anyway, the piece on resveratrol is actually a repeat from one CBS aired about six months ago and they didn’t even have any updates on it.  That tells me that something pretty amazing was there that intrigued the public the first time it was shown or they wouldn’t have done a repeat.  Raise your hand if you are interested in anti-aging and living longer with a higher quality of life.

If you didn’t catch it, here is a link you can go to and see for yourself (it is about 12 minutes long): http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=5037314n&tag=main_home_MediaBox

They were speaking about the development of a synthetic form of resveratrol, the substance found in red wine that has been studied extensively for its anti-aging affect.  It is pretty amazing what the research is showing that the natural form of resveratrol is effective at either preventing or treating.  See if any of these are a concern to you or someone you love:

    • Neurological health (Alzheimers, dementia)
    • Cardiovascular health (athletic performance, heart disease, etc)
    • Cancer prevention AND treatment
    • Joint health (arthritis, etc)
    • Osteoporosis
    • Hair loss
    • Diabetes prevention AND control
    • Macular degeneration
    • Cholesterol support (increase the good, decrease the bad)

Pretty impressive list, isn’t it?  Keith and I both have concerns for our health.  He was somewhat abusive to his body in his early years and I had years of sun damage from lifeguarding and swimming outside in those pre-sunscreen years of the eighties.  Besides, who wouldn’t want to prevent cancer or dementia?  We started taking a reseveratrol supplement that is the best on the market because it has been extensively researched (more about that in a minute).  We were simply looking to have a longer, healthier life.  In addition to eating healthy, exercising, avoiding toxins, we thought this would be an excellent addition to the supplements we take each day.

About five months after beginning the Vivix (the name of our resveratrol supplement) I walked into the room and Keith was studying his arm.  I was concerned he had picked up a tick or something else was wrong.  He said, “Look at my arm.”  I looked closely but couldn’t see anything that concerned me.  He said, “Where are my age spots?”  I looked again and could barely find the trace of where his age spots had been.  The only thing he had changed in his regimen was adding the Vivix supplement.

Another personal experience is that about two months after Keith began taking Vivix he had an appointment with the skin doctor to get a spot on his neck looked at (it looked kind of wart-like).  The doctor removed it and sent it off to be biopsied.  You may be familiar with the fact that when they remove those spots they go pretty deep to make sure they get down into the surrounding tissue for a clean sample.  Anyway, two weeks later, that spot was completely healed and just looked like normal skin.  Amazing.

Our resveratrol supplement, Vivix, is unique in a few ways:

    • It has a polyphenol blend which includes ellagic acid which promotes quick healing.  That is why the spot on Keith’s neck healed so quickly.  By the way, it was skin cancer but the doctor got all of it in that one cut.  Hopefully with Vivix there won’t be any more skin cancer for either of us!
    • Vivix is cold processed to retain all of the potency of the resveratrol.
    • There were 30 scientists researching Vivix for FOUR YEARS!
    • Vivix is a liquid tonic because it is sensitive to light and heat and will be less effective if powedered or dried.
    • It is kept in the refrigerator in glass bottles (three small bottles = one month supply).
    • There is a money-back guarantee.

One of the things about the 60 Minutes piece is that this drug form of resveratrol will not be available for five years.  First of all, if you read my blog with any regularity you will know I am not a fan of synthetic vitamins or drugs.  I think our bodies do not accept them as they do whole foods and whole food vitamins.  In addition, you don’t need to wait five years to get this drug.  You can take the natural form of resveratrol right now, today (well okay, maybe not today but as soon as your shipment arrives!).

Vivix helps your body to heal at a cellular level, this has been extensively researched and clinically-proven.  If you would like to know more about this and see scientific data (there is a lot of it as over 3,000 research articles have been published) please be in touch with me.
